Digitech 1998/99 Driver Line-up

The new season sees some radical changes in the driver line-up. Michal Janak is now the lead driver, after his successful assault on the drivers' championship last season, although he has hinted that he may not be able to compete in all the races this season. Ex-world champion, Oliver Roberts, is not racing this season, and has decided to concentrate on managing the team. As the 1998/99 rules permit 3-car teams, Oliver has signed 2 promising new german drivers, who both had some good results last season, right behind the lead battle. Welcome to Marco Saupe and Mirko Patzenbein.

#1: Michal Janak (Czech Republic)

Michal Michal Michal finished an impressive 3rd in his first season in his Magia-Chrysler car (which he also drove for the first half of the 1996/97 season). Michal joined the team midway through the 1996/97 season and again, finished the season in 3rd place (narrowly missing out on 2nd). Last season, his persistance paid off, and he won the championship in a very dominant manner - he finished every race in the top 2, and vastly improved his qualifying performances from previous seasons. Digitech believe that Michal still has the potential to make his season this year his best yet!

#2: Marco Saupe (Germany)

Marco Marco Marco is Digitech's first new recruit for the 1998/99. Digitech were impressed by his performance in his rookie season last year. Although he has only 2 podium finishes to his name, he regularly finished just outside the top 3 in the latter half of the season including a string of 4th places. He finished 2nd in only his 11th race, and finished the season 4th overall - both these facts are a major achievement for a rookie. Given that Marco was constantly improving during last season at M&T-Speed, we believe that he has the opportunity of being one of the major contenders this season.

#3: Mirko Patzenbein (Germany)

Mirko Mirko Mirko joins Digitech after an impressive rookie season with Enigma Racing last year. Although he appeared to struggle initially, Mirko soon got to grips with ups and downs of IAF1GPC racing. One of Mirko's most impressive performances was starting on the front row in Spain last year, just 0.026s behind the championship leader. Digitech hope that Mirko will soon settle in at Digitech, and continue to improve his performance this season.
